Self Shooting Vintage Clothing for Etsy

Yesterday I took my remote control, a basic 1 light flash setup, and white backdrop, and shot a few pictures of myself wearing vintage 1960s dresses to sell in my Etsy shop.

I cropped my face out of the pictures I didn’t like, and since these pictures are about the products, it doesn’t even matter.

Blue Self Portraits in an 1800s velvet cloak

I was feeling rather mysterious… so I shot this and turned it deep blue. I’m wearing a Victorian velvet cloak and re-creation fur muff… Kinda busting out all over, but oh well, it happens!

Shot with a Canon 60D on 2 second auto timer, F. 5.6, ISO 320, and a single remote flash.

Since I’ve been getting back to taking self portraits… it’s been an interesting emotional experience. Creating the artistic visions in my head as a model and photographer is unexpectedly psychologically intimate.

I was pondering about what would motivate me to update this site more frequently, to work on it more seriously.

I want to get back to my web-girl roots, but not in the way you might think.

I’m worn out from holiday shopping and not really in the mood for a self portrait. I applied the “comic book” effect in PhotoBooth and just shot this with the webcam on my MacBook pro.

365 Self Portrait Re-Boot (day 1)

Here’s the first self portrait in a reboot of my 365 challenge. I’m not going to take my pic the same way every day, but try to do something slightly different each day… as long as I get one self portrait shot and posted! This one was shot at the Missouri Botanical Garden with my Samsung Galaxy S (why trade in an old phone when it’s perfectly usable?).

I get on Tumblr to search for inspiration, and find very little. It seems that every other “self portrait” is a naked chick with a cell phone in the bathroom.
Where do you draw the lines? What kinds of self portraits do you post anonymously, and which do you put your real name to? Why?
